Useful measurement without a reader dossier
51percent uses privacy-focused analytics to understand which work readers find useful, where the site loses them, and whether its pages perform well. The measurement is anonymous by design.

What we measure
We use Umami Cloud and Vercel Web Analytics to collect page visits, approved campaign tags, referrers, page titles, browser and device categories, language, screen size, and coarse location. Umami also collects Core Web Vitals, fixed reading-time and scroll-depth milestones, and outcomes such as newsletter signup, resource access, article sharing, calculator export, citation use, and affiliate-link clicks. Vercel also receives the existing affiliate-link click event.
These measurements answer aggregate questions: which articles hold attention, which acquisition sources bring useful visits, and which pages are slow. They are not used to build an identified profile of a reader.
What we deliberately exclude
We do not use analytics cookies, cross-site tracking, distinct user IDs, session replay, or heatmaps. Analytics events do not contain email addresses, form contents, glossary search terms, calculator inputs, financial scenarios, complete source URLs, or raw error messages. Arbitrary URL parameters and fragments are removed before analytics data is sent.
How anonymous sessions work
Umami may process an IP address transiently to derive coarse location and an anonymous session hash, but says it does not store the IP address. Vercel identifies anonymous traffic with a hash derived from each request and automatically discards the visitor session after 24 hours. Neither provider connects sessions across other websites. Reading time advances only while this page is visible and the visitor has been active recently.
Your browser controls
The Umami tracker honors the browser's Do Not Track setting. Browser extensions and network controls may also block either analytics provider; the site continues to work normally when they do.
